There are several exchanges in the crypto community that offer users the opportunity to trade bitcoin in exchange for fiat or altcoins, but not all of these exchanges are eligible to use here in Africa. Some cryptocurrency exchanges such as US-based Coinbase and Gemini are restricted to particular geographical areas and can, therefore, not be used in Africa.

In this article, you will find five international cryptocurrency exchanges you can conveniently use in Africa to trade altcoins. It is also important to note that to use any of these exchanges outlined below you must use bitcoin as your base currency, which means to be able to trade you must first buy and transfer bitcoin into your account.

Poloniex

Poloniex is one of the most reputable cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. Located in Delaware, USA, this cryptocurrency exchange uses bitcoin as its base currency with over other 75+ cryptocurrency pairs to trade. Bitcoin, as well as other altcoins can be traded against each other. Bleutrade is a good alternative if the coin you want to trade is not listed in any of the above exchanges.

Nova Exchange

Nova Exchange is yet another cryptocurrency exchange that can be a used here in Africa. The exchange platform is based in Sweden and it has three main base currencies (Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Aricoin) that you can trade against a wide array of altcoins. The exchange supports over 100 tradeable cryptocurrency pairs.
