People in Bitcoin: Jimmy Song

Jimmy Song is a well-known Bitcoin advocate, developer and author. He has been contributing to Bitcoin projects since 2013, and is one of the most outspoken people in Bitcoin. 

Professionally, Jimmy Song started off as a software developer for many industries. 2014 saw him transition into the cryptocurrency world when he began working for Monetas, a crypto-finance software company.

A year later, he moved to Armory Technologie, an open-source bitcoin wallet management platform. Through Armory, he developed a bitcoin wallet intended for enterprise business.

After Armory, he moved to Paxos as the principal architect and in 2018, joined Blockchain Capital as a bitcoin fellow. The company focused on funding projects based on blockchain technology.

Other than working with companies, Jimmy Song has written several books based on his experience and thoughts on cryptocurrencies – especially Bitcoin. Some of his notable books include Programming Bitcoin: Learn How to Program Bitcoin from Scratch and Thank God for Bitcoin: The Creation, Corruption and Redemption of Money.

As a Bitcoin personality, Song has been a vocal critic of permissioned blockchains, alternative cryptocurrencies, and the argument that Ethereum will decentralize the Internet.
