People in Bitcoin: Andreas Antonopoulos

Andreas Antonopoulos got introduced to Bitcoin in the year 2012. At that time, he was the Senior Vice President and Founding Partner at Nemertes Research, which he had started in 2003. While working with Nemertes, Antonopoulos carried out research on computer security.

After discovering Bitcoin, Antonopoulos resigned and started speaking at conferences about Bitcoin, consulting for startups, and writing articles. 

Over the years, Andreas has grown to become a great influence in the Bitcoin industry – especially as an educator. His mission is to educate as many people as possible, in as many places as possible, in as many languages as possible, about the historical, technological, and socio-economic impacts of Bitcoin and open blockchain technologies.

This mission has seen him speak in front of audiences such as the Banking, Trade, and Commerce committee of the Senate of Canada where he addressed the senators’ questions on how to regulate Bitcoin in Canada, numerous news channels like BBC, Bloomberg, CNN, and the Financial Times. Further, he has served as a teaching fellow for the free Introduction to Digital Currencies course offered to the public at the University of Nicosia.
