MTN Ghana Mobile Money

Mobile money is one of the services MTN Ghana offers. According to an article on CGAP, MTN Ghana has played an important role in increasing the number of Ghanaians using mobile money (MoMo) and eventually promoting financial inclusion.

To register for MTN MoMo, you should visit the nearest agent or merchant with a formal document like a driving license or a national ID. Registration is free.

Ghanaians can use MTN MoMo to send and receive money and pay for goods through the Android and iOS apps.

The video data package is for users that love to watch YouTube videos or stream videos from other websites. Users that choose this package can purchase the fixed bundles or they can get bundles for the amount they wish to spend. Bundles under this package have no expiry date.

How to Check Your MTN Number in Ghana

In case you have forgotten your MTN number, there are several actions you can take to check it.

  • Find the plastic casing your SIM card came in: if you are sure you still have this plastic casing lying around, search for it to check your MTN number. The plastic casing will not only have your number but also your PIN and PUK numbers
  • Dial the USSD code: dial *156# on your phone and follow the prompts to see your number. This service is free
  • Call a customer care representative: Open your dial pad. Dial 100 with your MTN SIM and follow the instructions. Once MTN connects you to an agent, ask them to check your number and write it down for future reference. It is free to use this service
  • Call another number: to use this method, enter another person’s number in your phone and call them. The other person should be close by so that you can view your number. You will need airtime to apply this method
  • Send your other line a message: if you have two SIM cards on one phone, send an SMS to the number you know using your MTN line. You will receive the message showing your MTN number
  • Send another MTN line a “Please Call Me” message: if you have your friend’s MTN phone number, send them a “Please Call Me” message. The message on your friend’s phone will display your number

Once you get your number, save it in your contact list as “My Number” in case you forget it again.

MTN 4G Data Plan Ghana

To use the MTN 4G data plan, you must upgrade your SIM card to 4G or buy a 4G SIM card. Also, your mobile phone can only connect to this network if it is 4G compatible. Dial *585# to find out if your phone is 4G-ready. Upgrading your MTN SIM card to 4G could earn you free 4GB data for seven days. Note that a SIM card upgrade is free.

Once your phone and SIM card are 4G-ready, dial *138# to subscribe to a data bundle. The 4G data plans are similar to the other MTN Ghana data packages listed above. You can subscribe to the basic data package, the midnight package, or the social media bundle. If you subscribe to the MTN 4G LTE, you will receive a 50 percent bonus.

The 4G network is not available throughout Ghana. Therefore, you will experience a switch from 4G to 3G when you are in an area where MTN 4G is unavailable.

MTN Ghana has also rolled out 4G+, a service that is faster than the 4G network. As a result, if you need faster speeds, this is the network you should use.
